Current Event 5/3/11

NBA mandates metal detectors for playoffs :

In the aftermath of the Osama Bin Laden death, the NBA issued a mandated a metal detector check and checked everyone entering the Chicago Bulls game last night with the State Department warning of "enhanced potential for anti-American violence." This procedure will be mandated for all the semi-final games and continue through the playoffs. "Not all arenas in the league regularly use metal detectors. At the United Center, patrons are visually inspected. Metal detectors are only employed in a full inspection when, according to the venue's website, it is determined that 'the potential is high for inappropriate or illegal items to be brought into the building.' "
My reaction to this is that the NBA is doing the right thing taking precautionary measures during a time where attacks can happen at any time. This is the smart move because of the amount of people that come to watch games at the venues are hundreds of thousands. Especially in the Staples Center in Los Angeles where the population is possibly the 3rd most in the United States. I think the NBA has made the right choice and will protect the NBA and the fans of the NBA making it a worry-free playoff and an exciting playoff experience for all.
